Foundation

Thank you for taking an interest in the Foundation of the First Unitarian Society. The Foundation serves the First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis, a Humanist Unitarian Universalist church founded in 1881.

The Foundation provides financial support to the First Unitarian Society through the management of endowment funds and special purpose funds. Our mission is to financially help the Society be a flagship of Humanism within the Unitarian Universalist denomination, and to bring the humanist UU message to the larger community.

To carry out our mission, the Foundation Board of Directors manages eight funds. The Endowment Fund provides direct support to the general operations of the Society. We currently give an annual grant of five percent of a four-year average balance to the Society.

The Hendrickson Hopp Religious Education Fund is an endowment fund set up to specifically support the religious education program of the Society. The same grant allocation method is used to support our RE program.

The Foundation Fund or Unrestricted Fund is not an endowment fund, and this fund supports whatever needs the Society may have. This fund is also our cost center for operating the Foundation office.

The Kurt Pearson Social Concerns Fund is an endowment fund that supports grants to the larger community in the spirit of working for social justice and a fairer society.

The Sigmund Music Fund is not an endowment fund. This fund supports the commissioning of new music and special music needs at the Society.
