TODAY

Lend a Hand and Make a Difference
You can be part of a small crew that is making sandwiches for the Dignity Center immediately after the assembly today. We will be working in the kitchen and it will only take about 20 minutes of your time. There is more information about the Dignity Center on the Social Action table. Thanks for your help.

1964 Today?

Today, join a group of FUS members and friends for a guided tour of the exhibit 1964 at the Walker Art Center. 1964 focuses on works made during a period of tremendous upheaval and transformation politically, socially, and artistically in the U.S. In the year following the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the country saw riots erupt in a number of cities; President Lyndon Johnson ordered the first bombings in North Vietnam, and the Beatles invaded with their first concerts and their appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. We will meet at the SAC table at noon and walk over to the Walker for an outdoor lunch. Our gallery guide will be FUS member, Caroline Lappin. A gallery pass will need to be purchased by people who are not Walker members.

Toiletries for Those in Need
In spite of the toiletry kits FUS assembled on Community Service Sunday, The Dignity Center at HAUMC has put out a call that they are in desperate need of more toiletry items for kits. There are collection boxes at FUS in the lower assembly hall or they can be left in the office. Thanks for your help. Here is a list of what they need: soap, shampoo, hand lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, disposable razor, small container of shaving cream, deodorant, small package of Kleenex, (Optional) hand towel (used towels could be donated).

Coming Up at Summer Assemblies

10:30 a.m. in the Lower Assembly Hall

September 5: Swimming to the Other Side
Speaker: Steven Protzman, Summer Minister
Unitarian Universalism reminds us that none of us is in the water of life alone, and that together we teach and learn how to embrace this mysterious journey in all its wonder and terror and discovery. In this final summer assembly, we’ll reflect on our journey together, some of the places we’ve been and the things we’ve learned, and the work we are called to do as we swim together towards the world our faith calls us to create.

Program Year Assembly, held in the Upper Assembly Hall

Ingathering Service: September 12 at 10:30 a.m.
ASSEMBLY: To Answer the Shuttered Heart
Speaker: Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons.
As the summer’s heat begins to soften, we return to our regular meeting space in the Upper Assembly Hall, and kick off the formal program year at FUS. What do we carry forward from the summer changes? What do we leave behind? What doubts and fears stay with us, and what hopes abide? Please remember to bring the water that holds your special summer memories to add to our fountain, and keep in mind that what makes something sacred has partly to do with selection. We ask that you choose the one most important place/event to share with everyone.
